Runnin' Gyrenes Record Strong Finishes At Sand Shark Invitational

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina - Beaufort welcomed 31 women's teams and 29 men's teams to Sgt. Jasper Park in Hardeeville, S.C. on Saturday morning for the 10th annual Asics Sand Shark Invitational presented by Mortgage Network. 

The Lady Gyrenes raced to a 15th place finish, while the men's squad finished 18th in the field.

Maria Graves crossed the finish line first for the Blue and Green with a career-best time of 20:32.33. Michaela Elmer (20:39.50) and Claire Hobrock (20:54.78) finished  second and third for AMU, while Brigid Lennon (21:02.27) and Mary Rexroat (21:10.83) rounded out the scoring.

Gabe Hogan led the men's team with a 73rd place individual finish in 27:24.20. Thomas Mullally (27:28.65) crossed the line close behind him to finish in 76th place. John Lowrey (28:34.89) and Caleb Selecter (28:49.28) delivered career-best performances to score in the third and fourth spots for the Gyrenes, while Joe Swehla (30:14.31) rounded out the scoring for AMU.

The Runnin' Gyrenes recorded the top scoring average in school history for both the men's (28:30.26) and women's (20:51.94) teams.

The Ave Maria cross country teams will return to action at the Sun Conference Championships on Nov. 5.
