Hogan Takes On NAIA XC National Championship

ELSAH, Ill. ---
Ave Maria cross country freshman Gabriel Hogan competed in the NAIA Cross Country National Championship on Saturday morning, finishing in 204th place individually against the top 331 runners in the NAIA.
 
Hogan bested the school record time he set in the Sun Conference Championships of 26:42.35 by over a second with an 8k time of 26:41.20.
 
"I felt blessed to be at the championship, to have the opportunity to compete as a freshman out with a stellar group of competitors," said Hogan. "It was a great overall experience coming out to St. Louis."
 
Head coach Liz Baux added, "Gabe did a superb job today; PRing on a cold, windy, and challenging course. History was made today for Ave Maria cross country and we are really proud of him."
 
Southern Oregon was the team champion with 122 total points. St. Francis (Ill.) finished second with 148 points followed by British Columbia with 152 points.
 
Bacone College's Jackson Thomas was the individual champion with a time of 23:50.20 William Carey's Geoffrey Kipchumba finished runner up with a time of 23:57.10.
 
SCAD senior Aesop Brown was the conference's top finisher with a time of 25:12.30. Conference champion SCAD finished 21st out of 37 teams.
